Mulund, Mumbai

Mulund is the northernmost suburb on the Central line within BMC limits, with Thane city across the border to the north and Bhandup to the south. The railway line splits it into Mulund West, which runs up to LBS Marg and the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road at the foot of the national park hills, and Mulund East, which reaches the Eastern Express Highway and the salt pans along the creek.

Mulund has long been a settled middle-class suburb with a strong Gujarati and Marathi presence, good schools and a busy market around the station. Since the 2000s, former industrial land in Mulund West along LBS Marg and the link road has been developed into large gated complexes with towers, clubhouses and open space. Fortis Hospital is on the western side. Buyers are often families from Mulund, Bhandup and Thane moving up to larger homes, and professionals working in Powai, Vikhroli and Thane.

Mulund station is on the Central line with slow and fast trains. Metro Line 4, from Wadala to Thane along LBS Marg, will have stations at Mulund Fire Station and Mulund Naka; the line is under construction. The Eastern Express Highway leads south to Ghatkopar and north to Thane, and the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road tunnels, also under construction, will shorten the trip west.
