Andheri West, Mumbai

Andheri West runs from the Western Railway line at Andheri station towards the sea at Versova. Juhu and Vile Parle West lie to the south, Oshiwara and Jogeshwari West to the north, and SV Road and New Link Road carry most of its traffic north to south. Within it are several distinct pockets: Lokhandwala Complex, Four Bungalows, Seven Bungalows, DN Nagar, Azad Nagar and the old fishing village of Versova.

The area has long been tied to Hindi film and television, and many production houses, studios and casting offices work out of Lokhandwala and Oshiwara. Daily life is well served. Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital is at Four Bungalows, Infiniti Mall is on New Link Road, and Versova beach is at the western edge. Housing is mostly mid-rise and high-rise societies built from the 1980s onwards, with a steady stream of redevelopment projects replacing older buildings. Buyers tend to be media professionals, business families and salaried households working in the western suburbs, and resale homes make up most of the market.

Transport is a strength. Metro Line 1 runs from Versova through DN Nagar and Azad Nagar to Andheri and on to Ghatkopar, and Line 2A starts at Andheri West, giving a direct run north along Link Road to Dahisar East. Andheri station serves both slow and fast suburban trains.

That is two years away, so buyers should weigh the wait against the location. Roads in Andheri West are crowded at peak hours, and land for fresh projects is scarce, which keeps prices high.
