About Parel, Mumbai
Parel is in central Mumbai, east of Lower Parel and Prabhadevi, with Lalbaug and Byculla to the south, Naigaon and Dadar to the north, and Sewri to the east. Parel station is on the Central line, and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Road runs through it.
Parel is known as the city's hospital district. KEM Hospital and Seth GS Medical College, Tata Memorial Hospital and the Wadia children's and maternity hospitals are all here, and the area has a large population of doctors, nurses and families visiting patients. Like Lower Parel, it was part of the mill belt, and several former mill plots now hold residential towers and offices. The older parts have chawls and old buildings, and Lalbaug nearby is known for its Ganeshotsav celebrations. Buyers are often professionals working in Lower Parel, Worli and south Mumbai, and families from the central city.
Parel station has slow and fast trains on the Central line, and the Western line's Prabhadevi station is across the bridge. The Delisle Road bridge was rebuilt and reopened, and the Elphinstone bridge between Parel and Prabhadevi is being rebuilt as part of the Sewri-Worli elevated connector. Atal Setu to Navi Mumbai starts at Sewri, just east. Metro Line 3 stations in Worli and Dadar are the nearest.
