Jogeshwari lies between Andheri to the south and Goregaon to the north, divided by the Western Railway line into Jogeshwari West and Jogeshwari East. The west reaches SV Road, Oshiwara and Link Road, and the east runs past the Western Express Highway towards the Mahakali and Majaswadi areas. The Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) begins here and crosses the city to the eastern suburbs.

The locality takes its name from the Jogeshwari Caves, a rock-cut cave temple in Jogeshwari East that dates from the sixth century. It is a dense, mixed neighbourhood with older chawls, slum rehabilitation buildings and new towers, and it has become more attractive as Oshiwara and the offices of Andheri East have grown. Buyers are mostly salaried families looking for prices below Andheri while staying on the Western line, along with investors seeking rental demand from people working in Andheri and Goregaon.

Metro Line 7 has a Jogeshwari East station on the highway, and Line 2A serves Oshiwara on the western side. Metro Line 6, from Swami Samarth Nagar to Vikhroli along JVLR, is under construction. Jogeshwari station is on the Western line, and the highway and JVLR give road access to the airport and Powai.
