Dadar, Mumbai

Dadar is at the centre of the island city, with Prabhadevi to the west, Matunga to the north, Parel to the south and Wadala to the east. The railway lines divide it into Dadar West, around Shivaji Park and Ranade Road, and Dadar East, with Hindu Colony and Dadar Parsi Colony. Dadar station is where the Western and Central lines meet, and it is one of the busiest interchanges in the city.

Dadar has been a middle-class Marathi, Parsi and Gujarati neighbourhood for more than a century. Shivaji Park, with its cricket pitches, is its main open space, and Dadar Parsi Colony in the east is a protected low-rise area with small gardens known as the Five Gardens. Markets near the station, including the flower market, are busy all day. Housing is mostly older co-operative buildings, with redevelopment steadily adding taller buildings. Buyers are often families who grew up in central Mumbai and want to stay close to schools, temples and relatives.

Dadar station on Metro Line 3 (Aqua Line) is open, linking the area with BKC, the airport and south Mumbai. Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Road and Senapati Bapat Marg carry road traffic, and the Bandra-Worli Sea Link and Coastal Road are reached through Worli.

IndiProp lists 2 projects in Dadar East, both ready to move: Rustomjee Yazarina III, where possession was due in December 2023 and homes were listed from ₹5.64 crore, and Rustomjee Garden 6, due in June 2022 and listed from ₹9.08 crore. Prices are high for the area's typical homes and should be confirmed. Crowds around the station and old building stock are the main drawbacks.
