JP Nagar, Bengaluru

JP Nagar (Jayaprakash Narayan Nagar) is a large residential area in south Bengaluru, developed by the Bangalore Development Authority in the late 1970s and early 1980s and divided into numbered phases. Jayanagar is to the north, BTM Layout to the north-east, Bannerghatta Road to the east, Banashankari and Kanakapura Road to the west, and the newer phases stretch south towards Puttenahalli and Kothnur. The Outer Ring Road crosses its northern phases.

The older phases near Jayanagar are among south Bengaluru's settled neighbourhoods, with parks, schools, temples and busy shopping streets. The later phases are denser and newer, with apartment complexes around Puttenahalli Lake and the JP Nagar Mini Forest. Two metro lines serve the area. The Green Line runs along Kanakapura Road, with JP Nagar and Yelachenahalli stations. The Pink Line's elevated section on Bannerghatta Road, with a JP Nagar 4th Phase station, had been built and was awaiting safety clearance and opening as of September 2026. The ORR and Bannerghatta Road are slow at peak hours.

Housing ranges from BDA-plot independent houses and builder floors in the older phases to gated apartment complexes in the southern phases. Buyers are families who want to stay in south Bengaluru, professionals working on Bannerghatta Road, in JP Nagar or in Electronic City, and older residents upgrading within the area.
