Vidyavihar, Mumbai

Vidyavihar is a small eastern suburb between Kurla to the south and Ghatkopar to the north, on the Central Railway line. Its name comes from the Somaiya Vidyavihar campus, the large educational campus of the Somaiya Trust on the western side of the station. The western side reaches LBS Marg and Kirol Road, while the eastern side, towards Rajawadi and Ghatkopar East, is mostly residential.

Daily life is shaped by the campus and by its two larger neighbours. Colleges, schools and hostels fill the western side, and residents use Ghatkopar and Kurla for most shopping, hospitals and markets. Former industrial land near the station and along LBS Marg has been redeveloped into high-rise projects, so the area has a larger share of newer towers than older parts of Ghatkopar. Buyers are mainly families from the eastern suburbs and professionals working in BKC, Kurla and Powai.

Vidyavihar station is on the Central line's slow route. Ghatkopar, one stop north, is the eastern terminus of Metro Line 1, and Metro Line 4 along LBS Marg is under construction. The Eastern Express Highway and the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road are close by, giving road access to BKC and the western suburbs.
