Kurla, Mumbai

Kurla sits in the middle of Mumbai's eastern suburbs, with Bandra Kurla Complex and Kalina to the west, Chembur to the east, Ghatkopar and Vidyavihar to the north, and Sion and Dharavi to the south. The Central and Harbour lines meet at Kurla station, and LBS Marg and the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road cross the area.

It is one of the older suburbs, once a group of villages and later home to textile mills and industrial units. Today it is dense and mixed, with markets, chawls and old buildings near the station and large redeveloped plots along LBS Marg and towards BKC. Phoenix Marketcity is on LBS Marg. The Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, a starting point for many long-distance trains, is in Kurla East. Buyers are often professionals who want to be close to BKC at a lower price, and families already living in the eastern suburbs.

Kurla station is a busy interchange for Central and Harbour line trains. Metro Line 2B will have stations at Kurla East and SG Barve Marg on its way to BKC; the stretch through Kurla is under construction, while the section from Mandale to Chembur is open. The Santacruz-Chembur Link Road gives a direct road to the Western Express Highway.
