About Kothrud, Pune
Kothrud is west-central Pune's big residential suburb, bounded by the Vetal Tekdi hills to the north and the Mutha river and Karve Nagar to the south. Paud Road and Karve Road carry most of its traffic, and the Chandani Chowk interchange at its western edge feeds the Mumbai-Bengaluru highway and Bavdhan. Once known as Kothrud Baug, it grew rapidly from the 1990s and is now home to about three lakh people.
This is a settled neighbourhood of housing societies, bungalow plots and redevelopment projects, with colleges such as MIT World Peace University and Marathwada Mitra Mandal's College of Engineering and schools such as Abhinava Vidyalaya. New supply tends to come from older buildings being rebuilt. Jobs are spread out: central Pune offices are close, while Hinjewadi is reached through Chandani Chowk and the highway. The honest drawbacks are congestion on Paud Road and Karve Road and water supply: in June 2026 residents of Kothrud and nearby areas reported low pressure and shortages.
