About Bibwewadi, Pune
South of Swargate, Bibwewadi lies between the Market Yard at Gultekdi and the Katraj and Kondhwa side of the city. Its main roads are the Bibwewadi-Kondhwa Road, Swami Vivekanand Road and the Gangadham-Shatrunjay road, and the Pune-Satara Road runs along its western side. The area is established and dense, with housing societies, shops and small businesses, and it is home to the Vishwakarma Institute of Technology.
This is not an IT district. People who live here tend to work in central Pune, around Swargate and Market Yard, or drive out to the eastern and southern job hubs. New housing comes in mid-rise and high-rise projects on the remaining land parcels, especially along the Gangadham road. The bigger change is underground. Work began in September 2024 and is due to finish around February 2029. Until then, expect construction and traffic diversions: in May 2026 the police rolled out diversions around the Market Yard and Bibwewadi station sites. Bibwewadi suits families who want an established south Pune address with a metro link coming, and who can live with a few years of works.
