Central Pune, Pune

Central Pune is not an official locality. On IndiProp it stands for the old-city core around the Mula-Mutha: Shivajinagar and Deccan west of the Mutha, Sangamwadi at the confluence of the two rivers, and Camp (the cantonment) to the south-east around MG Road. Most of this area is governed by the Pune Municipal Corporation. Camp is run by the Pune Cantonment Board, and a proposal to hand the cantonment's civilian areas to PMC was still awaiting a state decision in 2026.

This is the city's administrative and institutional centre. The district court, Pune railway station, Fergusson College, COEP and the large hospitals such as Ruby Hall Clinic, Jehangir and Sassoon are all here, along with the shopping streets of FC Road, JM Road, Laxmi Road and MG Road. Two metro lines meet at the District Court interchange, and the Aqua Line stations at Deccan Gymkhana, PMC Bhavan, Pune Railway Station, Ruby Hall Clinic and Bund Garden cover much of the core.

New housing is rare because land is scarce, so launches here are few and priced well above the suburbs. IndiProp lists 1 project in Central Pune: Birla Sangamvadi by Birla Estates (MahaRERA P52100079533), with 2, 3 and 4 BHK homes starting at about ₹1.75 crore and possession due in December 2028. Sangamwadi is also where PMC has built the first stretch of its riverfront project, from Sangamwadi to Bund Garden. Central Pune suits buyers who want to be close to courts, colleges, hospitals and the railway station, and who value an established address over new-suburb amenities. Expect dense traffic and older surrounding buildings.
