Khar, Mumbai

Khar lies between Bandra to the south and Santacruz to the north, split by the Western Railway line into Khar West and Khar East. Khar West, the larger and better-known part, runs from Linking Road and SV Road towards Khar Danda and the sea, and borders Pali Hill in Bandra.

Khar West is one of the most sought-after addresses in the western suburbs. Its numbered roads hold a mix of older bungalows, low-rise buildings and newer towers built through redevelopment, and Linking Road and the cafés and restaurants around them draw visitors from across the city. Khar Gymkhana is a local landmark. Khar Danda, on the shore, is an old fishing village. Buyers are mostly business families, film and media professionals and senior executives, many working in BKC, Bandra and Andheri. Khar East, across the railway line, is denser and more modest.

Khar Road station is on the Western line, and the Western Express Highway and BKC are reached through Khar East and Santacruz. Metro Line 2B, from DN Nagar to BKC, will pass close to Khar with stations around Linking Road, but that section is under construction. The Bandra-Worli Sea Link is reached through Bandra.
