Sinhgad Road, Pune

Sinhgad Road (also spelt Sinhagad Road) is the arterial road that runs south-west from the old city, across the Mutha near Rajaram bridge, through Vitthalwadi, Hingne, Anand Nagar, Vadgaon and Dhayari towards Nanded, Khadakwasla dam and Sinhagad fort. The name is used for the whole residential belt along it, all within PMC limits.

For years the road was known for jams at its junctions. PMC's answer is a flyover built in phases between Rajaram bridge and Fun Time theatre. A 520 m arm towards Swargate opened in August 2024, and the 2.2 km Vitthalwadi to Fun Time stretch opened on 1 May 2025, bypassing five busy junctions for more than 1.5 lakh daily commuters from Vadgaon, Dhayari, Narhe, Nanded and Khadakwasla. The metro is next. Line 4, approved by the Union Cabinet in November 2025, will run elevated from Khadakwasla along Sinhgad Road to Swargate and on to Hadapsar and Kharadi, and the flyover is being adapted for its pillars.

The corridor suits families who work in the old city, Swargate or the south-western suburbs and like the easy run to Khadakwasla and the Sinhagad hills at weekends. Expect construction disruption: metro works on the road will take years, and the flyover was cut at 66 spots and narrowed by two metres to make room for the metro pillars.
