Mawal, Pune

Mawal is not a single neighbourhood but a taluka: the hilly belt of 187 villages between Pimpri-Chinchwad and the Sahyadri ghats, running from Dehu Road and Talegaon Dabhade through Vadgaon, the taluka headquarters, and Kamshet to Lonavala. The old Mumbai-Pune highway, the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the Pune-Lonavala suburban railway all cross it, which is why property here is often marketed on its links to both cities.

Industry is the main employer. The Talegaon MIDC area hosts the former General Motors plant, which Hyundai Motor India took over and where it started engine production in June 2025 and car production on 1 October 2025, with capacity of 1.7 lakh vehicles a year. Chakan's industrial belt is also within reach by road. Housing ranges from affordable apartments near Talegaon to plotted developments and weekend homes in the hills. Rail capacity is set to grow. The state cabinet has approved its share of third and fourth lines between Pune and Lonavala, a project of about ₹5,100 crore with 17 stations, shared 50:50 with the Centre. The existing line runs at 119% of capacity, and the new tracks would free the current ones for suburban trains. The trade-off is distance. Mawal is a long commute from Pune's IT hubs and old city. It suits people working in Talegaon or Chakan, and buyers after a low-cost first home or a second home.
