Balewadi, Pune

Balewadi is a western Pune suburb between Baner and the Mumbai-Bengaluru highway, with Mahalunge across the highway and Hinjewadi beyond it. It became part of the Pune Municipal Corporation in 1997 and, along with Aundh and Baner, was chosen as the model area for Pune's Smart Cities Mission. The Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, which seats about 20,000 and hosted the 1994 National Games and the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games, is its main landmark.

Its appeal is location. Hinjewadi's IT park is a short drive over the highway, Baner's offices are next door, and Balewadi High Street is known for its restaurants and bars. NICMAR's campus is here, and hospitals within easy reach include Jupiter, Manipal and Medipoint. The Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar metro has stations at Mitcon Balewadi, R K Laxman Museum Balewadi and Balewadi High Street; the first phase, from Maan, is due to end at R K Laxman Museum.
