About Noida
Noida is a planned city in Gautam Buddha Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, about 19 km south-east of New Delhi, on the land between the Yamuna and Hindon rivers. It was set up on 17 April 1976 under the UP Industrial Area Development Act. Its planning, land allotment and building approvals are handled by the New Okhla Industrial Development Authority (Noida Authority). The city covers about 203 sq km and is divided into numbered sectors, which is how buyers and residents describe locations.
Noida is separate from its neighbours. Greater Noida, founded in 1991, is a separate city under the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA). Greater Noida West, still widely called Noida Extension, also falls under GNIDA, not the Noida Authority. Further south, the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) governs the region around the new Noida International Airport at Jewar. When comparing projects, check which authority approved the plans.
For home buyers, the city falls into a few broad zones. Central Noida is the older, established core, with numbered sectors around Sector 18, the Botanical Garden and City Centre. It is served by Delhi Metro's Blue and Magenta Lines and linked to Delhi by the toll-free DND Flyway. The Noida–Greater Noida Expressway belt, running from the Mahamaya flyover to Pari Chowk, hosts much of the newer high-rise housing, in sectors numbered from the 120s to the 150s. It is served by the Aqua Line of the Noida Metro. Pockets such as Sector 62 are office and education hubs.
Noida is a major employment centre. Companies including Microsoft, HCL Technologies, Samsung and Arm have a presence here, and the district is a leading centre of mobile-phone manufacturing. The media hub at Film City in Sector 16A has operated since 1988.
Several projects are reshaping the city. The airport at Jewar began commercial flights in June 2026. The Union Cabinet approved an Aqua Line extension to Botanical Garden in February 2026, and the Noida Authority has cleared a second expressway to ease pressure on the existing one. Some of these are still years from completion, so buyers should weigh approved plans against what is already running.

Is Noida Extension part of Noida?
No. Noida Extension, officially Greater Noida West, is administered by the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA). Noida itself is run by the Noida Authority, so approvals and allotments for the two areas come from different bodies.
Which metro lines serve Noida?
Delhi Metro's Blue Line and Magenta Line serve central Noida, meeting at Botanical Garden. The Noida Metro's Aqua Line runs 29.7 km from Sector 51 to Greater Noida and has been open since January 2019.
Is the Jewar airport open?
Yes. Noida International Airport at Jewar had its Phase I inaugurated in March 2026 and began commercial flights on 15 June 2026. It lies in the YEIDA region and is reached mainly via the Yamuna Expressway.
What is being done about traffic on the Noida–Greater Noida Expressway?
The expressway carries around one million vehicles a day. In July 2026 the Noida Authority cleared a 29 km, four-lane Yamuna–Harnandi doab expressway as an alternative route, and the approved Aqua Line extensions will add metro capacity.
Who regulates real estate projects in Noida?
Building plans and land allotments are handled by the Noida Authority, and projects must be registered with the Uttar Pradesh Real Estate Regulatory Authority (UP RERA). Check a project's RERA registration and the authority's approvals before buying.
Where is Noida's Film City?
The existing Film City is in Sector 16A and has hosted TV channels and studios since 1988. A separate, much larger International Film City is planned in YEIDA's Sector 21 near the Jewar airport, but construction had not begun as of August 2026.
