That's what opened on 7 April 2026 when the first stretch of Mumbai Metro Line 2B, from Mandale to Diamond Garden in Chembur, was inaugurated on the same day as Line 9's first phase. It is the eastern end of a corridor that MMRDA is building to D.N. Nagar in Andheri West, about 23.6 km in all.
What opened on Metro Line 2B

Be clear about what this stretch does and doesn't do. It gives Mankhurd and Mandale a direct, signal-free ride into Chembur. It doesn't yet join any other metro line. The sections that make Line 2B useful for office commuters, through Kurla and the Bandra Kurla Complex to Bandra and on to D.N. Nagar, where it meets Line 2A, are still under construction.
What it means for Chembur and the eastern suburbs
For a Chembur buyer today, the practical gain is local: easier trips east towards Mankhurd and the Harbour line belt. The bigger change comes when trains run through to BKC. That's when a flat in Chembur starts competing for BKC commuters with homes in Bandra East, at a very different price.

Chembur already has a Harbour line station and the monorail, and it sits between the Eastern Express Highway and the Santacruz Chembur Link Road. The metro adds a third rail option, not the first. Buyers who expect Line 2B alone to transform the area are probably overweighting it.
A mistake to avoid
Don't choose a building because it's "on the Line 2B route" without checking which station is nearest and whether that section has opened. A flat near an unbuilt Kurla station and a flat near Diamond Garden have very different commutes today. Ask the seller to show the station on the MMRDA alignment map, then walk it.
If you're buying under construction, look up the project on MahaRERA and read the latest quarterly progress update. The metro timeline and the building's timeline are separate risks. You carry both.
What is still uncertain
- The western sections. No firm public date was given at the April opening for trains through Kurla, BKC and Bandra. Treat any date a salesperson quotes as a hope.
- Ridership and frequency. With no interchange, early use of a short isolated stretch tends to be modest. How often trains run will shape how useful it is.
- Prices. There's no registered-sale evidence yet of price movement near the new stations. Nobody can honestly promise one.
