Sholinganallur, Chennai

Sholinganallur is at the southern end of the Greater Chennai Corporation, where Old Mahabalipuram Road meets the link road to the East Coast Road. It is the 200th and last ward of the city and gives its name to the corporation zone. Karapakkam and Thoraipakkam lie to the north along OMR, Semmancheri and Navalur to the south, Perumbakkam and Medavakkam to the west, and Akkarai and Uthandi on the coast to the east.

Few places in Chennai have as many offices within walking distance. Infosys, Wipro and Tata Consultancy Services all have large campuses here, along with many smaller IT and BPO firms. Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology and St. Joseph's College of Engineering are just south on OMR, and Gleneagles Global Health City is in neighbouring Perumbakkam. Chennai Metro's Purple Line (Madhavaram to Siruseri) and Red Line (Madhavaram to Sholinganallur) will meet at Sholinganallur; both are under construction. Until they open, the Sholinganallur junction is one of the slowest points on OMR at office hours. Some low-lying areas near the marshes and lakes have flooded in heavy rains, so check the site's history.

Housing is dense: gated apartment complexes, tall towers and rental blocks for IT staff, with prices well above the southern stretches of OMR. Buyers are IT professionals, landlords building rental income, and families who want the beach on the ECR side within reach. IndiProp lists one project here: Brigade Altius, with possession due in December 2031 and prices from about ₹2.21 crore. That handover is more than five years away, so study the payment schedule and the developer's delivery record before committing.
