Madambakkam, Chennai

Madambakkam is a neighbourhood on the eastern side of Tambaram in Chengalpattu district, with Rajakilpakkam and Selaiyur to the west, Sembakkam to the north and Agaramthen to the south-east. It was a town panchayat until 2021, when it was folded into the new Tambaram City Municipal Corporation. Two old features anchor the area: the Dhenupureeswarar Temple, a 10th-century Shaiva temple protected as a national monument, and Madambakkam Lake, a tank with a water spread of about 100 hectares that recharges groundwater for the surrounding streets.

This is a residential suburb rather than a job centre. Most people work in Tambaram, along GST Road, or on the IT stretches of Velachery and OMR, and travel by bus, two-wheeler or car. Madambakkam High Road and the Camp Road link to Tambaram and to the Velachery road, and Tambaram station, with suburban and long-distance trains, is the main rail link. Selaiyur, next door, has the Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research and a good spread of shops. There is no metro here. Streets are quieter than in central Tambaram, though some low-lying pockets near the lake and its channels take on water in heavy north-east monsoon rain, so check a site's flood history before buying.

Homes are mostly independent houses and small apartment blocks, with a few larger gated projects arriving in recent years. Buyers are families from south Chennai and Tambaram looking for more space at lower prices than Velachery. IndiProp lists one project here: TVS Emerald Aaranya. Its possession was due in December 2025, so IndiProp shows it as ready to move. It was listed from about ₹1.2 crore; confirm current pricing and available units with the developer.
