Anandapur lies on the south-eastern fringe of Kolkata, right at the edge of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation area, in KMC ward 108. It has its own police station under the East Division, and falls in the Kasba assembly seat. Anandapur Main Road links the locality to the Eastern Metropolitan (EM) Bypass, while Anandapur High Road runs towards Kalikapur, Adarsh Nagar and Bantala.
The EM Bypass, operational since 1982, is the main corridor here. It carries traffic north towards Science City, Salt Lake and New Town, and south towards Garia, and several large hospitals line the road around Mukundapur, including AMRI, Medica Superspecialty Hospital and the Rabindranath Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences. Within Anandapur, Fortis runs a 400-bed super-speciality hospital.
Metro access arrived with the Orange Line. The Kavi Subhash to Hemanta Mukhopadhyay section opened in March 2024, and the line was extended to Beleghata in August 2025. Hemanta Mukhopadhyay station sits at the Ruby crossing, where Rashbehari Avenue meets the EM Bypass, and serves Kasba and Anandapur. Work continues on extending the line north to Salt Lake Sector V, New Town and the airport.
The area also has several schools and colleges, including Calcutta International School, The Heritage School and Heritage Institute of Technology, and large gated complexes such as Urbana.
